Your point is well made. However, Wilson was south of the Alabama River after April 9th, and a crossing by any substantial number of troops was no small matter. Getting a pontoon bridge across from Selma to the south bank of the river took the better part of three days. Uprooted trees carried downstream by floodwaters of the Alabama broke it apart more than once.
Also, if I recall, any raiding done north of the Alabama was done with the assistance of captured steamboats and ferries. At any rate, Autauga County was largely spared because of its location and the high waters which prevailed during that that season.
