The Alabama in the Civil War Message Board - Archive

Welcome to the "New" ALCWMB

Well you made it!

This is the new Alabama in the Civil War Message Board.

First of all, I'd like to thank Ken Jones, Wayne Adams, Hayes Lowe, Alan Pitts and Barry Wyatt for helping in the "beta" testing of this site.

On this site you'll notice:

None of those annoying advertisements.

The page should load faster and more reliably.

The message board will remember you, so that when you return it can fill-in your name and email address (optional)and tell you how many new messages have been posted since your last visite.

You will still get "automatic email notification" when someone responds to your posting, if you include your email address with your message.

You can create a "Profile" and tell others about yourself, upload or link to a picture and provide links to your website(s).

When you put a "URL" or internet address in your message the system will recognize it as such and generate a "hotlink". No need to learn "html". The same is true with email addresses.

Try the "Set Preferences" capability. Now you can individually select how would like to display the message board, i.e., by date, by thread, and a whole host of options. You can also choose how many messages to display, by days, weeks, months, etc.

The "Search" feature has multiple options. Experiment with them and if you have questions on its use, please post them on the board.

I will soon be implementing a "digest" version of the board, so that if you wish you can receive one of two emails per day with all of the new messages for that day listed. This will be excellent for those of you that are unit and county historians as you can keep a lookout for messages concerning soldiers and units within your area of expertise.

I will be doing a mass-emailing to all of the visitors to the "old" site informing them of the move.

It is my hope that the Alabama in the Civil War Message Board grows even more in quantity and quality and provides a valuable resource for WBTS historians and genealogists.

Please send me your comments, questions and complaints.
