Here's a sampling of women from Alabama with an impact on events during the civil war:

Etowah County, Ala.
Historical Monument
Emma Sansom
May 2, 1863.
Here girl heroine [Emma Sansom ] led [General Nathan Bedford] Forrest's men across Black Creek on way to capture [Union Colonel Abel D.] Streight's raiders. This saved the railroad supplying Confederate Army of Tennessee.

WOMEN OF THE BAILEY HOME, King's Store Community, Pickens County, Ala.
When General Croxton's Union cavalry was attacked in Pickens County by General Wirt Adams' Confederate cavalry on April 7th, 1865, some of the fleeing Union troops took refuge under the Bailey house. The family, hearing noises, went outside and found the Union soldiers crawling under the house. Some were wounded, and the women nursed them. These Union soldiers were probably those of Capt. Sutherland's detachment, who were attacked by Home Guard at King's Store. The historical marker regarding the Skirmish at King's Store does not include this part of the story.

UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA CAMPUS, President's wife
As I recall, both the President's Mansion and Gorgas House were saved at the pleadings of the wife of the University's president. No historical marker reflecting this, though.
