Blount's 5th AL Bn. Volunteers

Have an interesting battalion/regiment about which I have found little, the 5th AL Battalion under Lt. Col. Robert P. Blount, probably better known as the 9th AL Infantry (9th AL, 1st Organization, according to Sifakis' Compendium). I have an enquirer asking about a Pleasant Taylor who was supposed to have been in the unit. She has a hand written paper signed by Capt. R. Allen Smith saying Pleasant Taylor was a private in Col. Robert B. Blount's 5th AL Battalion who mustered in on the 20th day of Dec 1861 and then died on the 16th day of May 1862. She also has a probate paper where his wife went to court to get his money and clothes.

I do not find Pleasant Taylor in Broadfoot's Roster except as a private in the 58th AL Infantry (and a second one with a middle initial in a Virginia unit). Both Capt. Smith and Lt. Col. Blount show up as in the 5th (Blount's) Bn., but Broadfoot lists only about 25 men listed in the whole unit.

Anyone know anything about this unit or about Pleasant Taylor?
