Re: James Culverson, Co. F, 62th Inf

Bonnie,

There is a James Culberson in Company F, 62nd Infantry. The name of course is probably misspelled. Lockhart’s Battalion, which was the nucleus of the 62nd, was organized at Selma in Jan of 1864. Co F was made up of boys from St.Clair and Randolph Counties. Co. I had boys from Dallas County. Of course this does not preclude a resident of Dallas Co. being in Co. F. All the enlisted of the battalion (and latter regiment) were 16 and 17 year olds (and some younger) In the fall of 1864 they were designated 1st Alabama Junior Reserve. If you are interested in the history of this Battalion look at the posts below by Greg Wilson, Alan Pitts, myself and others concerning Lockhart’s Battalion and Chehaw Station
