On July 3, 1862, the 46th Alabama was assigned to Col. Thomas H. Taylor's Brigade, along with the 23rd Alabama, the 3rd & 59th Tennessee, the Marshall Rangers and the Rhett Artillery. The brigade was involved in fighting at Tazewell TN on Aug. 6, 1862. The main Confederate base in the area was of course Knoxville, and those who were seriously ill were probably forwarded to that point.
