Cherokee County in the Confederacy

Travis Hardin has been so kind as to incorporate some of my work on Cherokee County AL in his ALGENWEB site. Travis included citations for the data, which comes from the Eighth Census of the United States for free and slave population, agriculture and manufacturing, as well as post offices in the county as they existed in 1860 and election results from that year.

From time to time, I post parts of my notes on Confederate organizations from the State of Alabama. I've assembled all of these that relate to Cherokee County and Travis has put them put them on a page titled "Civil War Military Units from Cherokee County". Perhaps someone will find it useful. I'm always concerned that I've left something out, so please contact me if you notice anything missing or any statement that's in error.

I should mention that the industrial census data for Cherokee County is incomplete, but we hope to take care of that in the very near future.

If anyone is interested in another Alabama county, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

As always, I welcome any comments and suggestions.
