Re: 25th Ala. Inf. Reg't Co.K Coffee Co.Al.

The original Company “K” came from Mobile County. Known as “Coast Guard No. 1”, Captain Jacob M. Rabby’s Company “K” withdrew to become an independent command which served near Mobile. Captain Pierre Darcy Costello’s company from Coffee and Pike Counties replaced it before the end of January 1862. It had the somewhat unusual name, “Little George Mathews’ Friends”. This company entered Confederate service at Elba AL on January 20, 1862.
