1993 Congressional Commission Priority

The Association for Preservation of Civil War Sites lists as targeted for preservation only the 7 battlefields in Alabama identified by 1993 Congressional Commission. 4 of these are described as opportunity lost. The Commission includes Gen. Roddey's attack at Athens in early 1864. Isn't Gen. Forrest's attack at Athens in 9/64 far more significant? Shouldn't battles such as Chehaw, Ebenezer Church, Girard, &c. be included?

Site Priority

Athens Opportunity lost
Day's Gap Needs additional protection
Decatur Opportunity lost
Fort Blakely Needs additional protection
Mobile Bay Critical need for immediate action
Selma Opportunity lost
Spanish Fort Opportunity lost

The APCWS indicates no action currently planned for preservation in Alabama. Does anyone know if we have an organized group in Alabama that is working to preserve Civil War sites? See APCWS Alabama page at:
