I was wondering if anyone was familiar or had any information about a place marked on a USGS map called "The Penitentiary". This is located on the southern side of Double Mountain, which is past double oak mountain. I have heard that it was used in the civil war as a naturally formed penitentiery. The low lying area is formed from the near intersection of Sand Mountain, Pine Mountain, Double Mountain, Signal Mountain and Penitentiary Mountain. It appears that there is a look out tower on Signal Mountain and Muddy Prong runs through the site.
