Joshua Richard Goodwin, Fort Morgan

We have just discovered in old family records that our GGGgrandfather, Joshua Richard Goodwin, b. 1801 in SC served at Fort Morgan, and was sent to Elmira NY prison as a POW ,after the Fort was captured, and released June 6, 1865 at the end of the war. He settled in Jefferson County, AL in the 1830s. He had four sons that also served in the CSA, and two died in service. Could anyone provide information about what unit he served with, or any other details.
Thanks
Susan
