Hopkins T. Hankins

We had been discussing this man on the old board. His service record shows that he enlisted in the 1st Georgia Confederate which served at Pensacola during 1861. On Feb. 15, 1862, he reenlisted for the war in Robertson's (Dent's) Battery, giving a residence of Marengo County AL. Records of Dent's Battery show him present for duty through Dec. 31, 1863, but nothing for 1864. He reappears in April 1865 with a hospital entry at Mobile which shows that he was transferred to Meridian MS. Hankins surrendered as a member of Dent's Battery (but not with the battery) on May 9, 1865, a resident of Marengo County AL.

As you can see, we cannot confirm or deny his whereabouts in 1864. Since the records pick up on the same track as his command in 1865, I would venture a guess that he was with his unit during the previous year.
