The date is correct, but I would describe the action as an occupation, not a raid. From this point Union troops went south to Decatur, west to Tuscumbia and Florence, and east as far as Bridgeport. The town of Athens was sacked by General Turchin and his command a few days later, and the famous Andrews Raid took place on the rail line between Atlanta and Chattanooga that month.
