Do not fail to read:
Memoirs of Service Afloat During the War Between the States
By the man himself (Raphael Semmes).
The things that admiral Semmes and the officers and crew of the Alabama were able to accomplish are nothing short of amazing. This ship captured and sank more enemy merchantmen than any surface ship before or since. By the way the ship was not only built in Liverpool most of her crew were what the yankee propagandists like to refer to as the “scum of Liverpool”. I’m certainly glad we have such “scum” on our side in our present troubles!
