I am searching for Elisha Sumrall who is listed in the Braodfoot roster as being in the 36th Infantry Co. "I".
Family stories say he was in Vicksburg when the war ended and was supposed to return, evidently to a Parole Camp.
Elisha lived in Wayne Co. MS, in 185O. I have been unable to find him in any other census.
His parents Jacob and Mary Ann Sumrall are in Choctaw Co. AL in 186O. His wife's name was Nancy McKary Sumrall.
Can you tell me what Confederate units were at Vicksburg when the war ended?
I am new to the C.W. search, someone said he could have been a Volunteer, and that would affect the records. Please explain this to me.
If you have any info or suggestions on where I might find Elisha. I would appreciate your help.
MSDHA has no record of him, have not sent to AL Archives yet, due to limited research budget.
