Upcoming Book on the 17th Ala Inf

Friends below is an email I recieved regarding the publication of a book on the 17th Alabama Infantry:

The Seventeenth Alabama Infantry: A Regimental History and Roster

by Illene D. Thompson and Wilbur E. Thompson

This book provides an account of the involvement of the 17th Alabama
Infantry in the Civil War. Descriptions of military assignments include
coastal defense duties at Pensacola, the bloodbath at Shiloh, the coastal
defense at Mobile, and their part in the battles of Atlanta, Franklin and
Nashville. The book explores personal aspects of the soldiers as well as
their reactions to events surrounding them. Part of the story is told using
their own words, wherever available, from diaries, letters, and military
reports.

The appendices include a roster of all men known to serve in the
regiment during the four year period; and the roster contains over 2800
names. Individual entries in the roster provide information on enlistment,
disease, injury, capture, and discharge where known. When available, date
and location of birth, death, and burial are also included. A medical
glossary explaining the diseases and a casualty list can also be found in the
appendices. There is also a bibliography and a combined full name and
subject index. 487pp.

The book is expected to be available in January 2002. The
prepublication price is $29.60 plus $3.00 S&H if ordered prior to December
31, 2001. The publication price will be $37.00 plus $3.00 S&H.
