Based on his enlistment date and place, I'd bet the ranch that this man wasn't an original member of the 27th Alabama. The 57th Alabama included a number of men who enlisted at Clopton on Feb. 12, 1863. This man was most likely one of those recruits.

About half of the consolidated 27th Alabama came from the 57th, forming companies "F", "G", "H", "I" and "K". Survivors of the 49th Alabama formed Company "E", and what was left of the 27th and 35th Alabama were grouped together as Company "D". Companies "A", "B" and "C" came from the 55th Alabama.

Since the name has been spelled in different ways, perhaps a record of his service appears under another name with the 57th Alabama.
