Re: SIPSEY GUARDS/ O'NEALS 26TH INFANTRY

Here's the requested information about formation of the company. All original enlistment dates should correspond to these. I've also included service record summary information on the company's captains:

Company “I” of Fayette County “Sipsey Guards”

David F. Bryan. Formerly Captain of Company “A”, 3rd Alabama Infantry Battalion. Surrendered at Fort Donelson, Tennessee, February 16, 1862; exchanged at Vicksburg, Mississippi, September 20, 1862. Returned to his company, November [7,] 1862. Appointed Major January 10, 1863, to rank December 4, 1862.

William H. Lindsey. Served as Captain [from April 18,] 1862, to November [7,] 1862; returned to previous rank. Captured May 3, 1863, at Chancellorsville, Virginia; exchanged at Washington, District of Columbia, May 18, 1863. Promoted Captain June 18, 1863. Wounded at Franklin, Tennessee, November 30, 1864; captured there December 17, 1864. Died at Camp Chase, Ohio, March 11, 1865.

Lewis Monroe Wimberly. Wounded and disabled at Fredericksburg, Virginia, December 13, 1862. Appointed Captain January 10, 1863, to rank December 4, 1862. Resigned June 17, 1863. [DAB4:1787]

Accepted in Confederate service at Fayette, Alabama, August 3, 1861, this company reported at Tuscumbia, Alabama, September 26, 1861. Officers and men formed Company “A”, 3rd Alabama Infantry Battalion, which surrendered at Fort Donelson, Tennessee, February 16, 1862. Exchanged at Vicksburg, Mississippi, September 20, 1862, survivors rejoined the regiment November 7, 1862.
