15th Alabama Infantry

Need some information on early part of the war regarding the 15th AL Infantry. They left Alabama for Richmond in August 1861, having been organized at Ft. Mitchell, in Russell County. Joseph Crute (Units of the Confederate States Army) says they went to East Tennessee, then on to Virginia. According to Col. Oates book, they left via rail (which one? the Atlanta & West Point seems likely), went through Augusta, GA, and then came to Richmond (leaves out a lot of potential information here).

Does anyone know their actual route? Did they go through Tennessee? Which rail line? Etc. Are there any eyewitness descriptions of the route to Virginia available? Anything would help.
