J.D. West, 5th Ala. Inf. Regt., Old Co. C

Anyone have info on whether this is the John D. West who died at Chancellorsville in April 1863?

I know that the 5th participated in the battle there. However, John D. West was a resident of Mississippi, moving from Pickens County, Alabama in 1854.

J.D. West is shown as a private in Old Co. C [from Pickens County], but is not found [by me, at least], on rolls after the reorganization in May 1862. Old Co. C became New Co. H.

A William B. West is found in both Old Co. C and New Co. H, if that provides any clues. John D. West had a brother named William J. West. This appears to be William A.J. West of the 19th Miss. Inf., Co. E.
