Re: McBrayer - St. Clair County, AL

Dear Susan,

John, R.R. and William McBrayer were members of the 18th Alabama Infantry. This unit was recruited from the Cahaba Valley of Jefferson, Shelby and St.Clair Counties by Capt. John Oliver. They fought at Shiloh, Blackland, Chattanooga and Missionary Ridge, from Chattanooga to Atlanta and the siege of Atlanta, then to Nashville and Franklin with Hood by which time they were decimated. Their last battle was at Spanish Fort and they were surrendered at Citronelle by Gen'l Taylor. There are several sites where you can research this units history. Hope this helps.

Paul
