Re: Civil War Battles

This company was assigned the the 3rd Alabama Cavalry Regiment but never served with it. Officers and men were from Dallas County, and the company name should be "Cocheron Dragoons", although it has frequently been reproduced with the extra "r". Here are my notes on this command:

Company “K” of Dallas County, “Cocheron Light Dragoons”

Capt. Robert W. Smith. Appointed Colonel April 7, 1862; assigned to duty as Civil and Military Governor of Corinth, Mississippi. Later appointed Inspector of Cavalry, Army of Tennessee, June 6, 1862.
Capt. James Ford. Promoted Captain on April 13, 1862. Resigned due to ill health, June 11, 1862.
Capt. Edwin M. Holloway. Elected Captain May 26, 1862 (paid from June 12, 1862); formerly 1st Sergeant. Surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina, [April 28,] 1865.

Members enrolled for twelve months service at Pleasant Hill, Alabama, November 16, 1861, and mustered at Mobile, Alabama, three days later. The company reorganized for two years or the war May 26, 1862, but never served with the regiment. Acting as General Bragg's escort from early 1862, it also served as an escort for Generals Johnston and Hood during 1864.
