For what it's worth, I'm curious about the name "Dixie Sledge Guards". I've not been able to find it mentioned in any papers written by veterans during the war or afterwards, or mentioned in wartime news articles. The only definite reference we have is a company flag which purports to that of Co. "B", 45th Alabama, and the flag has been determined to be of post-war construction:

Of course the company name could be authentic even if the flag is not. The ADAH in Montgomery has a long list or Alabama company names for antebellum companies as well as wartime units, and "Dixie Sledge Guards" isn't on it. Again, I've found references to company names that aren't on their list, so that alone doesn't rule it out. Can anyone seen any hard evidence for it?
