Does anybody out there know anything about one William Williamson, a volunteer aide to Gen. Withers at Shiloh/Pittsburgh Landing? He's briefly mentioned in General Withers' official report, but I can't find any more on him in his capacity as an "aide." Williamson lived in California during the Gold Rush days, and he was apparently an nationally famous "turfman" and racehorse breeder, but none of the horse racing libraries (esp. Keeneland) have cross-referenced indexes. I'd appreciate any leads to his activities either before or after the war, or as to how he ended up on Withers' staff.
