James Neal doesn't have a company letter designation, which indicates that he was captured at Selma AL Apr. 2, 1865. The Federal register shows him to have been paroled during Wilson's Raid, between Chicaksaw Landing on the Tennessee River (Mar. 22) and Macon GA (Apr. 20).

Richard Neal enlisted in Co. "E" of Lockhart's Infantry Battalion, Talladega AL, Jan. 18, 1864. He was sixteen at this time, the same age as most other members. Company "E" was recruited among boys from Calhoun and Talladega Counties.

Its captain was Junius L. Walthall, formerly 2nd Lieutenant, P.A.C.S., and drillmaster at Camp Buckner, Talladega, Alabama. Walthall was paroled at Talladega, Alabama, May 15, 1865.

Lockhart’s Infantry Battalion was stationed at Selma Al where it served on provost guard duty during the first half of 1864. It later fought Rousseau at Chehaw Station in Macon County in July 1864. On Aug. 6, 1864, the battalion reorganized as the 1st Alabama Reserve Regiment at Pollard, Ala.

While on provost duty Richard Neal was issued clothing at Selma AL. He received two shirts and two pair of drawers on Apr. 6, 1864; a hat, a jacket and a pair of pants on Apr. 20, 1864. The roll for August 1864 shows him absent without leave since July 27, 1864. I didn't note a later record.
