Re: How do I find out where my ancestor fell?

His service record has a single entry. It shows his name in a list of Confederate officers and men who died during the war. The notation reads, "killed in Mississippi", with the date of death given as May 22, 1863. This was the date of Grant's assault on Confederate lines at Vicksburg MS which was thrown back with heavy losses.

There are several other Baileys in Co. "K", 30th Alabama Infantry Regiment, probably related. These are:

Bennett A. Bailey,
Needham Bailey,
Pleasant Bailey,
R. Bailey,
Thomas F. Bailey,
W. H. Bailey.

Needham Bailey, died Dec. 5, 1862, Atlanta GA;
Pleasant Bailey, captured May 22, 1863 (Vicksburg MS);
W. H. Bailey, died Nov. 7, 1862, Tennessee (exact location not stated).

Those who remained until the surrender in North Carolina were consolidated with Co. "D", 20th Alabama.
