Alabama Cemetery at Bristoe Station, VA

Hello ALCWMB,

What does the Sons of Confederate Veterans Organization, The Civil War Preservation Trust, Centex Homes (of Nevada), and the Prince William County Virginia Government have in common? They have worked up a plan to preserve some 127 acres of the Bristoe Station, Virginia, battlefield, which includes an adjacent "Alabama Cemetery".

The Prince William County (Virginia) Planning Office has posted their staff report about the New Bristow Village Project on the County's website at:
<http://www.pwcgov.org/planning/staffrep/bristow.pdf>

Attachment page B-7, last paragraph, makes a statement the Sons of Confederate Veterans has provided a report of a thermal imaging study of part of the site. I have heard wild rumors of "hundreds" of graves discovered by the thermal images, but have not yet seen the report to judge how true this is.

Attachment C lists the developer's proposed proffers. Section 11 has some very interesting stuff relating to the battlefield, such as proposing to use ground penetrating radar around a known civil war cemetery (thought to contain many Alabamians from the 9th & 10th Alabama Infantry Regiments).

Please share your thoughts on this topic, as the Public Hearing for this plan is scheduled for Wednesday, February 6, at 7:30 PM.

Regards,
John Pearson
