Lynn --

Exemption papers on record with the Alabama Department of Archives and History show Hugh Henry, Justice of Peace for St. Clair County, exempt from militia duty by reason of civil appointment. Lynn, ordinarily with a man of his advanced years (age 44 in 1860), he's not going to be in the army. Should you find a name match in Confederate service, your first impulse should be to check the census for for a younger man who shared the same name. This guideline will spare you from a lot of fruitless searches.
