Re: W. B. HUGHES--Rescuing from Oblivion

Alan,

Many, many thanks for both of your wonderful responses! Am overwhelmed with your generosity and knowledge.

Appears I overlooked WBH's service in Co. F,, 1st Alabama Artillery Battalion. Went back to the list Dr. Jones kindly sent, and sure enough there he was in Co. F. too!

"*Co. "F" (Madison, Franklin, and Marengo Counties); HUGHES, William B., 1st Lt. (promoted, Capt., Co. "A")]"

If I'm understanding correctly, WBH did serve in four companies of the 1st Alabama Artillery Battalion--A, B, C, and F (only Capt.of C though). Therefore, four orders need to be placed with NARA. WBH's service/records in any other units prior to his service in the 1st Alabama Artillery Battalion would have occurred prior to February 23, 1861 and be lost and, therefore, unverifiable.

Know that I'll never be able to repay you for your assistance, but if you think I can help in any small way, please do not hesitate to ask!

Margaret
