Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta

I made a trip to the Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, where from the cemetery records, we were able to establish the final resting place of Daniel McDavid Wyatt of Co. H 38th Ala Infantry Regiment (my gg-granduncle). He is buried in the Unknown Confederate Dead section. This ends a 2 year search indentifying his unit of service information and locating his burial spot.

Many thanks go out to this board, it's participants, and Mr. Reed at the cemetery for all your help. I am truely greatful.

The final mystery to be solved is....even though the cemetery had his name and unit information, Daniel was buried in the Unknown section without a marker. My first thought was heavy casualties combined with the war spilling over into Georgia (Dec 25, 1863), the field hospitals were preparing to move south and hurriedly buried the dead without marking the specific graves. However, in the next block are marked graves of soldiers who died throughout 1864.

Any opinions on what may have occurred that lead to his burial in the Unknown section?

Also, I took pictures of many markers for projects I am helping others with. I have pictures of all the markers that I located for soldiers in the following Regiments:

38th Ala Infantry
53rd Partisan Rangers Cavalry/Infantry
24th Ala Infantry
6th Ala Infantry/Cavalry
Hilliard's Legion
All Louisiana Regiments

There were many, many other soldiers from Alabama buried there, and many with name & Confederate States Army only on the marker. Many of these have unit information in the cemetery records.

Anyone interested in a particular soldier from one of the units listed above, please respond or email me and I will check to see if I have a picture of their marker.
