Burial from Chickamauga

Recently, I discovered that my ggg-grandfather, Volney Willoughby of the 5th Georgia Infantry, Co. A was killed on September 19th, 1863, at the battle of Chickamauga.

I have scoured the North Georgia and Chattanooga cemeteries and I can not find him.

There is a note from a family visitor to "the old homestead" (abandoned) of the family in Stevenson, AL, post-war, that two (2) recent unmarked burials were in the yard. How likely or possible might it be that, Volney was removed from the Chickamauga battlefield and transported to the fifty (50) miles to his home in Stevenson for burial?

I can not account for these two burials, unless they were Volney and his oldest son, Monroe, who was a member of the 17th Tennessee (CS) and died of disease in the fall of 1862.

Thanks,

Jim
