One of my ancestors, William Joel Coffee (Coffey) has been linked to the 12th Alabama Infantry on several family trees. I have also found a Joel Coffee in the 49th Infantry (detached for several months to the 31st). I thought I read that the William (or Joel) Coffee in the 12th Infantry died during the war, but can't find that record. I hope that someone can help me figure this out.

1850 Census = residing in Morgan County, AL
1860 Census = residing in Morgan County, AL
1866 Alabama Census = residing in DeKalb, AL
1870 Census = residing in Lee, MS
1880 Census = residing in Franklin, AL
