The ancestor I am searching (Julian F Nail) is from Jefferson Co. B-ham area. He joined up with the 1st Alabama Inf. in Decatur, AL. 20 May 1864 mustering out 20 Oct 1865. The other Julian Nail (no middle initial) joined up with Hardie's 13 Jun 1864. So if these are the same people, he joined the Union then joined the Confederates after. I have not seen a copy of the story about Julian's brother Luke "Boot" Nail, but it is suppose to be published in a book called "A Keg of Nails, A Nail Family History" by Ruth H Nail (supposed to be deceased now). I also can not find a copy of this book as only so many were printed, and I spoke with the author several years back and she had no plans to reprint the book, she stated she had burnt all her research.

We know that Julian F Nail was a recruiter for the Union through his records.
