Collier Harrison Minge, Jr of Mobile

Collier H. Minge, Jr, a graduate of VMI, received an appointment as 2nd Lieutenant and Drillmaster, Aug 1, 1864. Being assigned to Brig Gen James L Kemper, commandant of Virginia Reserves, Lt Minge wrote the Secretary of War on Sept 27, 1864, requesting to be assigned to reserve forces of his native state, Alabama. Evidently Minge got his wish. Alabama miscellaneous records index him as 2nd Lt and Adjutant of the 64th Alabama Inf Regt, paroled Meridian, Miss., May 14, 1865. However, the unit designation Minge gave on his parole appears to be "2nd Lt & Adjt 4th Ala Infy." That would appear to mean 4th Alabama Reserves, a senior reserve command which had been assigned to the defenses of Montgomery and finally Columbus, Ga.
