The Color Sergeant for the 5th Alabama Infantry Regiment in 1864 was Basil H. Hanks of Company H. However, he was wounded at the Battle of Cool Springs on July 18, 1864. It is unclear when he returned to duty as Color Bearer. He was promoted to Ensign on October 27, 1864, and continued as such until the surrender at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865. I believe that Basil Hanks didn't return to duty until late October when he received his promotion to Ensign.

Color Corporal George Washington Hannah of Company B was the Color Bearer at the subsequent battles of July, August and September 1864. However he was mortally wounded during the Battle of 3rd Winchester on September 19, 1864.

That means that the likely Color Bearer at the Battle of Fisher Hill on September 22, 1864, was J. C. McDiarmid of Company D. He had been promoted to Color Corporal some time after Gettysburg.
