The State Archives has commissions for the officers of the "Alabama Zouaves", issued by Governor Moore on Jan 1, 1861. Captain was Bythen B Smith, later 1st Lt of Co G, 45th Alabama Regt. By my count, the "Alabama Zouaves" was the 99th company admitted into the Alabama Volunteer Corps.
