DAVID WINDRIX, U.S INFANTRY, CO B-33rd REG'T

Looking for information on the service of David Windrix. He survived the war as he was living in Jackson Co AL in 1870 with wife, Manerva/Minerva Wilson Windrix. She applied for a minor's pension for their minor son in 1887. Her 2nd husband, William H Clemens, is shown as guardian on the record.

My question is: This pension record is found on FootNotes.com so why is there not other information shown regarding David's military service? The document only shows file numbers and the date. How can I find out what information is actually inside that file? I'm "ignorant" regarding how to access/order all of his military service records. Any help appreciated.
