Alabama cavalryman wounded by buried explosive

I have posted on the Arms and Equipment board under "Confederate Improvised Explosive Devices" a description of the wounding of the Adjutant of the 1st Alabama Cavalry (Union) by a buried land mine placed by the Confederates to hinder Sherman's approach to Savannah, Georgia in December 1864. Called a "torpedo" at the time, these mines reportedly inflicted up to 90 casualties. Also of note is that the Federals brought up Confederate prisoners to dig up these devices, which I imagine would be strictly prohibited by international convention in our modern era.
