A couple of Confederate dead photographed by Weaver just after the battle of Gettysburg is at the location where the 44th Alabama emerged from the scrubby woods near Devil's Den and received an immediate deadly volley of fire from the 4th Maine. See photograph 92a in William Frassanito's book, Early Photography at Gettysburg, 1995, p. 280. Frassanito has pinpointed the location, so you can visit the exact spot where a number of men from the 44th gave up their lives, perhaps your ancestor included.
