My wife's ancestor was John McLeod, also from Clarke Co. He was in the 24th Ala. Inf. and was also killed at the Battle of Franklin and was buried there, probably among the other Confederate unknowns. As oral history relates, he ran a grist mill in the town of Jackson making bread for the army, so he was exempted from service. But he enlisted anyway.
