Raised in Lee County.....we/they hunted rabbits, squirells, quail and doves. Fished for any fish large enough to eat. You could not have any deer..... they would eat the crop. I never saw a deer until after the war and almost all the old farms were planted with pines (pulpwood). I never went back to the farm after discharge as my grandfather, blacksmith/farmer, had passed away. Late thirties or early forties the doves had some sort of disease, lung propblem I think, and we diid not eat the doves.
