Alan, your comment about few people owning firearms at that time aroused my curiosity. I have read several family wills that listed in detail the items to be distributed among the heirs...never a mention of any firearm.. being of Scotch Irish descent there was ample mention of whiskey stills and parts of stills which did not surprise me. Blacksmith tools, barrel making tools, wagons, livestock, tanning tools and stock, books, barrels and jugs, slaves, furniture, dishes, tinware, etc.
