There was an article covering this in the Alabama Heritage magazine several years ago and is covered in Walter Cisco's book "War Crimes Against Southern Civilians.". As I recall the ultimate outcome was Turchin being promoted to Brig General while his trial was ongoing. Northern sentiment was clearly in his favor. This incident is considered by many to be the beginning of what came to be a pattern of war against southern civilians by federal forces.
