I have to admit that I was a bit perplexed when shown the pass, but not as confused as I was when a lady showed me what she said was her Confederate ancestor's discharge and after I pieced it back together it turned out to be an 1865 discharge from the Union Navy. [He had been in the 34th Alabama Infantry and was captured at Missionary Ridge, but later enlisted in the U.S. Navy at Camp Douglas. He apparently neglected to tell anyone what he had done. She didn't take it well when I told her.]
