Jackson Belknap - Mobile flag maker

Hello,

I am trying to find out if Jackson Ogden Belknap, of Mobile, AL., a very prominent local citizen and major flag maker for Alabama and Confederate units, has any living descendents in the Mobile area.

It is hoped that if they can be tracked down that they might have his business papers. Belknap died in the 20th Century and is buried in Mobile along with other family members. His wife Sarah also made flags in 1864.

Belknap is responsible for early war Alabama company colors as well as some from Mississippi. In October, 1863 he made the first issues of the rectangular, 12 starred battle flags for the Department of Alabama, Mississippi & East Louisiana, and continued making those (with his wife Sarah, into July, 1864. He also made the 12 starred Second National battle flags.

The Mobile Museum has his picture but not much else.

Any help would be appreciated.
