According the 1870 census, this man's residence could be found near Morrowsville, along Georgia Road. Today it's on Hwy 11 between Roebuck and Trussville. A comparison between the 1860 and 1870 census shows that the war had a great impact on his estate.

I don't see prior military service for John L. Lewis. The earliest date you can assign to him would be Sept. 4, 1863, as shown on the company roll. This company enrolled in Confederate service at Elyton AL, members served under orders of the Conscript Bureau in Jefferson County, 2nd Congressional District of Alabama.

I have an ancestor in the same company. Capt. Truss and his men served as military police in Jefferson, St. Clair and Shelby Counties.
