Colonel John A. Minter
In Response To: Re: Major Minter questions.... ()

Your ancestor probably served under John A. Minter (company A) in the First Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi in 1862. The regiment surrendered at Island No. 10. Most of the men were released from prison that Fall. Minter became the colonel of the 54th Alabama, and continued to serve under General Alpheus Baker for the remainder of the war.
