BIOGRAPHY OF SANFORD ELLISON PRUET

Sanford Ellison Pruet joined Capt. Patterson's Company at Camp Curry, Alabama 3/22/1862. The Company became Company I.

Pvt. S.E. Pruet, Co I 30th Regt., Ala. Inf. Returning to the Army (CSA) from leave Ellison Pruet with his son James Alexander Pruet used two mules to travel from Ashland to Talledega, Alabama. He was to join his unit at a section called White Oaks, leaving his son to return to Ashland with the mules. He boarded a train for Vicksburg and was never to return to Clay County from the Civil War. He was captured at Champion Hill, near Vicksburg MS. 16 May 1863. He was sent to Ft. Delaware, Del. arriving 9 June, 1863. He was paroled from Point Lookout, MD. Furloughed on May 6, 1864 (30 days) from Chimborazo Hospital #3 (CSA) Richmond, VA. He was recaptured at Nashville Dec. 16, 1864. He died of blood poisoning of a wound on the foot (cannon ball) on the 26 Dec. 1864. He is buried in the Nashville, City Cemetery, grave #10681, (his remains was sent to MT, Olivet Cemetery, Tennesee in 1867 for reburial.)
Ellison's brother,Sgt. John Robert Pruet was also captured May 16, 1863 at Champion Hill, which is 20 miles east of Vicksburg, MS. He died June 16, 1863. He was born 24 March, 1838, being 25 at the time of his death. He was buried at Finns Point,MD.
Sanford Ellison Pruet married Mary Drucilla CASTLEBERRY, 5 September, 1848 in Union County, South Carolina.
