Bob:

The 57th Alabama Infantry became part of Scott's Brigade which was formed at Demopolis, Alabama on 10 MAR 1864. Colonel Thomas M. Scott was formerly Colonel of the 12th Louisiana Infantry. Loring's Division, including Scott's Brigade, was moved north from Demopolis to Montevallo on 2 APR 1864. General Polk's Army of Mississippi was ordered to join the Army of Tennessee and Scott's Brigade led the way departing Demopolis by rail on 5 MAY 1864. They arrived at Blue Mountain the next day. They then marched overland to Rome, Georgia arriving 9 MAY 1864. General Polk was directed by General Joseph E. Johnston to proceed from Rome and take command of all forces gathering at Resaca. Scott's Brigade arrived by rail at Resaca on 10 MAY 1864. General Johnston withdrew his army south to Resaca arriving on 12 MAY 1864. Scott's Brigade was first engaged on 13 MAY 1864 at Resaca. Thomas M. Scott's official promotion to brigadier general was announced in June 1864, but was to be effective 10 MAY 1864 for purposes of rank and pay.

Johnston's army was at Cassville, south of Resaca on 19 MAY 1864.
