If the soldier died during the war or afterwards, his widow became ineligible for a claim in his name if she remarried. Otherwise the only requirement was that the applicant be a resident of Alabama and able to verify wartime Confederate service. Citizens who worked in war industries or enrolled in the militia were not eligible for pension support.
